Mangave 'Moonglow' is a unique, man-made hybrid succulent plant resulting from a cross between Agave and Manfreda. It features architectural, silvery-blue, fleshy leaves with contrasting dark purple flecks and spots, forming a tight rosette. 'Moonglow' combines the fast-growing, architectural qualities and unique patterns of Manfreda with the refined form of Agave, offering a plant that is hardier, grows faster, and has softer marginal spines than a traditional Agave. It thrives in full sun and requires free-draining soil and protection from winter frost to prevent root rot.

Bold and chunky, dazzlingly silver and fierce looking, its broad leaves have a strong agave character, revealing its hybrid parentage. Although fierce-looking, the leaves are quite soft and flexible, making the imposing hooked spines on its leaf margins relatively harmless. One of the larger False Agaves, it slowly produces pups (young offshoot rosettes), making a clump that regularly produces 2m tall spikes of bright yellow flowers. Worth trying outside in the hottest most sheltered spots in southern and coastal gardens, or returning to an unheated conservatory or greenhouse for winter.
