A frost-tender fern that forms a slender trunk as it matures and produces stiff, upright to arching fronds up to 90cm tall and wide.

The Cyathea Cooperi Tree Fern is a fast growing Tree Fern with an ultimate size of up to 12m. Lacy, elegantly arching fronds up to 4m in length are mid green in colour and have light brown scales at their bases.

Prefering a shady spot spot, but if planted in a sunny position, it will need more water. Hardy down to around -3 degrees for short periods when mature, it will usually need protection during winter. It does make an excellent specimen for growing in a pot, so it can be brought inside through the colder months and then summered outside if desired.

This sought-after fern, will form a thick, tree-like stem as it grows, topped with a crown of large (up to 3m long), filigree-like fronds.  Needs some winter protection, can be left outside but will require the crown to be protected.

An outstanding fern with a large, shuttlecock of bright green fronds, with a black, bristly midrib. It is this feature, and the amazing geometry of the frond structure, that make this fern so exceptional and distinctive.
Although technically evergreen, the leaves always collapse in winter and look better if removed.
Grow in shade in any soil including dry soil.
