Please note the first picture is to demonstrate the flowers, the second and third are that of the plants for sale.  Hedychium gardnerianum, commonly known as Kahili ginger or Kahila garland-lily, is a fragrant and ornamental ginger native to the Himalayas. Despite its attractive appearance, it is considered one of the world's 100 worst invasive species due to its aggressive growth and ability to form dense thickets that displace native vegetation. Description

Hedychium gardnerianum is a perennial herb with upright, leafy shoots that can grow 1.5 to 2.5 meters tall.

  • Foliage: It has large, tropical-looking leaves that are bright green, oblong, and clasp the stems.
  • Flowers: The plant produces spectacular, cylindrical spikes (inflorescences) of scented flowers that are bright yellow with prominent red stamens. These appear in late summer and autumn.
  • Fruit: Following the flowers, orange capsules develop, which split open to reveal small, red seeds covered in a crimson aril.
  • Rhizomes: It spreads via a large, branching, and dense network of underground rhizomes. These can form thick mats that smother and outcompete other plants.

Please note due to the time of year the leaves may be yellowing / turning brown.
