Kniphofia caulescens, commonly known as the caulescent red-hot poker or blue poker, is a dramatic, drought-tolerant perennial admired for its colorful flowers and striking architectural form. Its common name refers to its short, stout, trunk-like stems, which set it apart from other Kniphofia species
- Foliage: It features evergreen, arching, grey-blue or glaucous leaves that grow in handsome rosettes on short, woody stems.
- Flowers: The flowers are borne on sturdy, upright stems, forming fat, dense spikes.
- The buds start out a deep coral-red or orange color.
- The flowers then open to a cool lemon-yellow, creating a striking two-toned or ombre effect as the buds on top remain red.
- Flowering season: The blooms typically appear from late summer into mid-autumn, providing color when many other garden plants are fading.
- Size: The plant can reach a height of 1 to 1.2 meters, with a spread of around 0.5 meters.
