The 'Goldcrest' conifer is the popular Cupressus macrocarpa 'Goldcrest' (Monterey Cypress 'Goldcrest'), an evergreen conifer known for its bright golden-yellow, lemon-scented foliage and distinct columnar shape. It is widely used for hedging, screening, and container planting, and has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. 

Key Characteristics

• Foliage: The most notable feature is its vibrant, year-round golden-yellow, scale-like foliage that emits a pleasant lemon or citrus scent when brushed or crushed.
• Form: It has a dense, naturally upright, and narrowly columnar or conical growth habit.
• Size: The ultimate height can reach up to 12 meters (40 feet) in optimal conditions, with a spread of 4-8 meters. However, smaller cultivars like 'Wilma' are available, which typically reach 1.5-2.5 meters and are better suited for containers or smaller gardens. It grows at an average to fast rate of 30-60 cm per year.
• Hardiness: It is a fairly hardy plant, suitable for most of the UK, and can tolerate coastal conditions and exposed sites when established. Young plants should be sheltered from cold, drying winter winds.
