Dryopteris filix-mas 'Barnesii', commonly known as Barnes' narrow male fern, is a distinctive, upright cultivar of the native British male fern. It is highly valued for its elegant, slender fronds and structural "shuttlecock" growth habit.

 Features narrow, lance-shaped, mid-green fronds with slightly ruffled or serrated pinnae (leaflets). An upright, clump-forming fern that grows in a tidy, vase-like shape.  Typically reaches a mature height and spread of 1 to 1.5 meters (3–5 feet) over 2 to 5 years. Fully hardy (H6) and can withstand harsh winters without protection.Prefers partial to full shade but can tolerate more sun if the soil is kept consistently moist.Thrives in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It is notably tolerant of dry shade once established.
