Polystichum munitum, commonly known as the Western Sword Fern, is a robust, evergreen perennial native to western North America. It is widely celebrated in landscaping for its architectural, leathery, dark-green fronds that form a distinctive shuttlecock-like rosette.  Lustrous, sword-shaped fronds can reach 0.9m to 1.2m (3–4 ft) in height. Each leaflet has a small "lobe" at the base that resembles a sword hilt.Extremely hardy (RHS H7, USDA zones 3–8), tolerating temperatures well below -20°C. Forms dense, arching clumps and is a reliable grower in varied conditions, including woodland settings and shaded borders.
