Platycerium bifurcatum - Staghorn fern
£5.00
An evergreen, epiphytic fern, meaning it naturally grows on trees or rocks, not in soil. It produces two distinct types of fronds: Flat, rounded, or heart-shaped fronds that grow at the base, protecting the root system and collecting organic matter. They turn brown and papery as they mature and should not be removed. Fertile (Antler) fronds. Arching, grey-green, forked fronds that resemble a stag's antlers and can grow up to 1 metre (3 feet) long. These bear brown spore patches on the undersides of the tips. It is a slow to moderate grower that can reach a significant size, up to 90 cm (3 feet) or more across, over time. Non-toxic to humans and pets, making it a safe choice for most homes.RHS +6
