Musa Dajiao (or Da Jiao) is a fast-growing, exotic banana hybrid valued for both its ornamental beauty and its edible fruit. A cross between Musa sikkimensis and Musa balbisiana, it is known for being more cold-resilient than many other fruiting varieties.

Features huge, paddle-like green leaves with a distinct whitish, waxy bloom on the undersides. It typically grows to a height of 2–4 metres.

  • Fruit: Produces large, sweet bananas that can be eaten fresh or used for cooking (often referred to as a "baking banana" or plantain).
  • Hardiness: It is considered "conditionally hardy." While leaves die at temperatures below -2°C, the main stem (pseudostem) can survive down to about -7°C or -8°C if properly protected.
